Oregon's Front Porch

Oregon's Front Porch

Three weeks ago I announced that I am exploring a run for Governor of Oregon because our state's future must begin right now, with a leader who will bring Oregonians together and boldly move us forward. I think we can all agree it's time for a leader who will govern with passion, empathy, and energy - and who will forge creative solutions to the common problems we share.

In these last three weeks I have begun to talk with Oregonians about how we move our state forward, and I share your concerns where we are headed.

As a citizen legislator, I know the best answers come from our people. That's why I'm traveling across our state to listen to Oregonians from Portland to Pendleton, from Bend to Medford, and lots of places in-between, because you know what our state needs to succeed and thrive.

Here's a small sample of what I've been up to over these last three weeks:

  • On July 9 I spoke with the Salem Economic Development Corporation about jobs and the future of Oregon's economy.

  • I appeared on the radio with conservative host Jeff Kropf on July 14 because I'll never be afraid to talk seriously with anyone, of any political persuasion about creating the future Oregon deserves.

  • On July 15 in Camp Sherman, my family and I witnessed Governor Kulongoski sign the bill I championed to protect the Metolius, an extraordinary Oregon treasure.

  • I spoke at several events, including the world-famous Lane County Chili Feed on July 26 and the Marion County Demo Forum on July 20.

  • And today I will be in Portland to discuss the economy at the inaugural gathering of the Asian Pacific American Chamber of Commerce and in Salem to talk education with the leaders of Stand for Children.

This is just the beginning. Over the next few weeks, I will be visiting many communities across our state as we continue our listening tour. We are already planning swings through Southern Oregon, Central Oregon, Eastern Oregon, and the Oregon Coast, and I will keep you up-to-date on my travels.

Whether we're fishing on the Umpqua, sitting in a coffee shop in Portland, or chatting on your front porch in Medford, I'm ready to talk with you about where our state is headed.
